 •  Mardy Juniors in Europe
History
*

Mardy Football Club started life in 1897 as a parish football team.

Llantilio Pertholey church provided the first changing facilities, and games were played in an adjoining field.

In recent years the club has settled at the Llantilio Pertholey Community Centre, known as the 'Mardy Hall'.

Mardy Juniors

In 1972, a young boy named Kyle Holmes knocked on the door of Mal Skinner, the Mardy FC Secretary. Kyle said that he and his friends wanted to play football, but there was no team for them to play for.

The rest, you might say, is history.

Mal pioneered the early days of the club in the 1970s. During the 1980s and 1990s, Gareth Povey and then Nigel Casson, were key figures in the development of the Juniors.

Both are now closely involved with the senior club, and a new generation of parents is at the helm.

Incidentally Kyle Holmes went on to have a distinguished amateur career and in 1978-9 made 25 appearances in the 3rd & 4th Division of the Football League for Hereford United (League 1 & 2 today), scoring 3 league goals.

To date Kyle has the distinction of playing at the highest level following his start at Mardy Juniors, but we have some ambitious youngsters who want to follow in his footsteps.
